The major photoproducts following
the absorption of UVR by DNA are pyrimidine derivatives (Errera
1952). These photoproducts are cyclobutyl-type dimers
('pyrimidine dimers'), pyrimidine adducts ('spore
photoproducts'), pyrimidine hydrates and DNA-protein crosslinks
(Patrick and Rahn 1976).
